Skidmore is a highly selective liberal arts college that fosters creative approaches to teaching and learning. Skidmore’s faculty of teacher-scholars are devoted to the instruction and mentoring of approximately 2,400 talented undergraduates from some 47 states and 46 countries.

The Department of English at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor with specialization in postcolonial literatures in English from outside of Britain and the United States. We are particularly interested in candidates who teach literatures of Africa, the Caribbean, and/or South Asia. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses, including expository writing, introductory classes, and theme-based seminars in the field of specialization.  

Requirements:

The teaching load is 18 credits (typically five courses) per year, including one writing-intensive course each semester and regular participation in Skidmore’s First Year Experience program. All professors are expected to participate fully in the life of the college, including advising, faculty governance, and department activities. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching and scholarship, as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate education at a liberal arts college.

Education:

Ph.D. is expected at the time of employment.
