Spanish Tenure Track Faculty Position
Tenure Information: Tenure Track
Sarah Lawrence invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in Spanish to begin in Fall 2023. Candidates should be prepared to teach all levels of language and culture courses, from Beginning to Advanced, and to occasionally teach courses in English in their area of interest. The area of specialization is open thematically and geographically; we especially encourage applications that establish broad connections—including but not limited to work in African heritages across the Americas and/or transatlantic, U.S. Latinx, Indigenous, and/or LGBTQIA+ studies—and that engage varied media and cultural forms. We are interested in candidates who have creative and expansive visions about teaching and research, and who would complement and expand our existing curriculum.
The application should include the following: cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, proposals for one Beginning and one Advanced course in Spanish that you could see yourself teaching at Sarah Lawrence, a sample syllabus, a brief writing sample in Spanish or English, three letters of recommendation, and teaching evaluations. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our curricular structure, including the one-on-one work with students that it entails (https://www.sarahlawrence.edu/undergraduate/).
Review of applications will begin on October 7, 2022 and will continue until a successful candidate is chosen. Should the review of your qualifications result in a decision to pursue your candidacy, you will be contacted by email.
Native or near-native fluency in Spanish is essential, as is a commitment to excellence in teaching. Applicants should have received their PhD by Fall 2023.
