Assistant Professor of German Studies

The Department of German Studies at Stanford University is seeking applications for a tenure-line Assistant Professor. The Department is part of the Division of Literatures, Cultures, and Languages, a consortium of departments that collaborate on curricular and research initiatives and on hiring. The position is open field, with preference for a candidate whose field of specialization encompasses core German materials and who works on German literature and culture in a global context. Candidates must demonstrate strong scholarship and excellence in teaching. Near-native fluency in German and English is required.

The candidate will be expected to teach in both English and German and teach four courses (a mixture of graduate and undergraduate) per year. Preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. in German Studies. We anticipate a start date of September 1, 2023. Ph.D. required by the appointment start date.
