The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee English Department seeks a creative writer with an expertise in fiction who can contribute to a busy creative writing program that offers BA, MA, and PhD degrees. One of the oldest doctoral programs in creative writing, UWM’s program is known for its accomplished alumni; its distinguished literary journal, cream city review; and its national, AWP-award winning undergraduate journal, Furrow.

Duties would include a 2/2 teaching schedule (a mix of graduate and undergraduate courses); serving on graduate student exam and dissertation committees; serving on the program admissions committee; and participating in the literary life of the campus and city by attending and occasionally organizing readings and other events on- and off-campus. Creative writing faculty also take turns serving as program coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
- Terminal degree (such as an MFA or PhD) in creative writing
- College teaching experience
- A published novel or short story collection
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD in creative writing or related field
- Publications and teaching experience in a writing genre other than fiction
- Experience working with colleagues and mentoring students who bring a range of diversity to the campus
- Experience in administration
