The Department of English, Comparative Literature, and Linguistics at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure‐track Assistant Professor position in Creative Writing with appointment to begin Fall of 2023.  CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include the development and teaching of introductory and core courses in the discipline, and the development of courses in their area(s) of specialization. Areas of preferred emphasis include poetry writing, creative nonfiction writing, fiction writing, creative writing pedagogy, contemporary literature.  Areas of preferred secondary emphasis include ethnic literatures, such as Native American and Indigenous literatures and/or Chicanx and Latinx literatures; digital/multimodal writing; social justice writing; literary journal editing and production; queer literatures; feminist or women’s literatures; de-colonial literatures, literatures with a focus on class, race, gender and/or disability. The appointee will be expected to teach a range of courses in creative writing and literature at the upper division and M.A. levels, in addition to lower-division, introductory, and general education courses in the field of Creative Writing.  The appointee will also develop courses in their specialties, particularly at the senior and graduate levels. Faculty generally teach 3 classes per semester.  A reduced teaching load is provided for the first two years. This person will also be responsible for producing creative publications and, if applicable, scholarly publications commensurate with the requirements for tenure. Candidates must provide evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and student-centered environment. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities. Evidence of or potential for an active publication record and high-quality teaching is required.
