Kathryn B. Gore Chair in 19th-Century French Studies

The Department of French and Italian at Tulane University invites applications for the Kathryn B. Gore Chair in French Studies, at the rank of associate or full professor. Scholars specializing in 19th-Century French Literature, with a focus on the colonial history and politics of the Maghreb, Francophone Africa or the Caribbean, are encouraged to apply.

Candidates for the endowed chair are expected to have an established record of outstanding scholarship and a demonstrated ability for leadership. They must also demonstrate a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching and interest or experience in program building.

We welcome applications from candidates whose work complements or further enhances one or more of our faculty’s areas of concentration and who are ready to strengthen the Department’s vision of a transnational Francophonie that is interdisciplinary, attentive to questions of fluidity, mobility, exchange and transformation.

The Kathryn B. Gore Chair comes with significant research support, with the expectation that the hire will maintain an eventful, scholarly agenda, recruit and mentor graduate students, and participate in departmental and university service. The teaching load is two courses per semester.

Applicants should send a cover letter, curriculum vitae and sample courses. Please visit http://apply.interfolio.com/112178 to apply.

Writing samples of no more than twenty-five pages and letters of support will be requested of all candidates who are interviewed.  Review of applications will begin on November 15, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
