Assistant Professor of English, specializing in Technical Writing & Professional Design

Job Summary

The Department of English in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Arlington invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor specializing in Technical Writing & Professional Design, to start in the Fall 2023 semester.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be an active researcher who can contribute to our MA and PhD programs and to our emerging undergraduate program in TWPD, which includes a minor and a certificate and which offers face-to-face, online, and accelerated online courses. The teaching load is 2/2 the first year, with the expectation of remaining 2/2 thereafter based upon significant research productivity. The position also entails service, such as mentoring graduate students or participating on committees.

Required qualifications

PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or a closely allied field is required.

Preferred qualifications

PhD in Technical Writing, Technical/Professional Communication, or a closely allied field is strongly preferred.

Special Conditions for Eligibility

Preference will be given to applicants with research interests, qualifications, and/or experience related to one or more of the following areas:

  • Social justice in technical and professional communication
  • Decolonial/cultural rhetorics
  • Chicana/o/x and/or Latina/o/x rhetorics
  • Indigenous and/or Native American rhetorics
  • Translation, multilingualism, and/or translingualism
  • Community-engaged projects in technical and professional communication
  • Usability, user experience, or user interface
  • Rhetoric of health and medicine

Strong preference will be given to applicants with experience teaching or mentoring diverse student populations.

The Department offers majors in English and English with Teacher Certification; minors in English, Creative Writing, Sound Studies, and Technical Writing & Professional Design; a certificate in Technical Writing & Professional Design; and an MA and PhD in English.
