Associate or Full Professor

The Department of Romance Studies at Boston University invites applications for the position of Associate or Full Professor of French with preferred specialization in any field of nineteenth-century French studies. This tenured appointment entails teaching in our undergraduate and graduate programs. Starting date: July 1, 2023.

 

We seek applications from candidates who, through the excellence of their teaching, scholarship and service to the profession and the community, will contribute to the efforts of the Department and Boston University to strengthen racial, ethnic and intellectual diversity.

 

Fields of expertise may include any area of nineteenth-century French and Francophone studies with attention to its sociocultural contexts, such as issues of gender and sexuality, or the history and legacies of colonialism in the French-speaking world and its representation in literature, film or other media. Also welcome would be an interest in visual studies, photography, urbanization and architecture.

Candidates should have a native or native-like command of French and English, a distinguished record of research, the ability to direct graduate studies, and a record of excellent teaching at the college level.
