Assistant Professor of American Literature

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Professor of American Literature, Florida Atlantic University, Wilkes Honors College, Jupiter, FL

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track position in American Literature with an emphasis in African American, Latinx, Native American, or LGBTQ literature, beginning fall 2020.

The Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College of Florida Atlantic University is the nation’s only university-affiliated, free-standing honors college. Located in Jupiter, FL, this close-knit, residential, highly-selective liberal arts and sciences college offers a distinctive all-honors curriculum and is committed to interdisciplinary learning.

Faculty are also invited to participate in team-taught, cross-disciplinary courses of their own design. All courses will be taught on the Jupiter campus. 
 
The teaching obligations are 5 courses per year, generally around 15 credit hours, and also include supervision of undergraduate thesis research. Candidates will be expected to maintain a rigorous research and publishing agenda and participate in service to the college and university. The ideal candidate will also have the ability to contribute to fostering diversity of the campus, curriculum, and discipline.
 

Minimum Qualification: 

PhD in Literature from an accredited institution required at the time of appointment.

 

Ability to teach introductory and advanced literature courses in both the pre and post 1865 American literary canon as well as introduction to academic writing.

 

Ideal candidate will define the American canon broadly and inclusively.
