Lecturer in German

Columbia University's Department of Germanic Languages invites applications for a Lecturer in German to begin July 1, 2023. This is a full-time appointment with multi-year renewal contingent on excellent performance as a passionate language instructor and teaching mentor. Responsibilities will include teaching 2-3 German language courses per semester, depending on other responsibilities such as coordination of multiple sections of the language program, supervision and training of graduate student instructors, and supervision of adjunct instructors, curriculum development, test writing, placement and proficiency testing.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements: M.A. in German language pedagogy/literature/culture/second language acquisition/applied linguistics at the time of appointment (PhD preferred), native or near-native (C2/Superior) proficiency in German and English, three years of teaching experience of German as a second/foreign language (college level) covering beginning through advanced levels, broad-ranging expertise in current methodologies and related research, as well as expertise in the integration of technology in the classroom. Research profile in foreign language pedagogy a plus. Columbia University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
