Assistant Professor, Spanish

The Department of World Languages and Literatures at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Spanish, beginning in the fall of 2023. 

 

Applicants must possess a strong desire to teach and pursue research in a liberal arts environment with a reputation for excellent teaching. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, or Second Language Acquisition with a focus on Spanish for Specific Purposes, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, or Translation Studies. The candidates must have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and a good command of English. Preference will be given to candidates who can develop and teach courses at all levels of the Spanish language curriculum, including elementary Spanish, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, and Spanish for Specific Purposes (Business, Health Professions, Social Work, Education, etc.).

The position carries a teaching load of eighteen faculty workload credits per year (approximately five courses per year). All teaching is at the undergraduate level. We encourage applications from historically under-represented groups as well as individuals who have experience in teaching in a multicultural classroom; women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply. Teaching statements should address the ability to work effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion, and it should provide specific examples that demonstrate this ability. The college is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and service.

Pay Range:  Commensurate with experience
