Director of the Writing and Communication Program (WCP) and endowed Class of 1958 Professorship

The position seeks a senior tenure-track faculty member at the rank of advanced associate or full professor beginning in August 2020.

The WCP Director provides a vision for the Writing and Communication Program’s parallel missions in teaching and learning for Georgia Tech students and in professional development for WCP postdoctoral and lecturer faculty. More specifically, The WCP Director is responsible for advancing the humanistic goals of LMC through the following activities:

• Furthering the program’s teaching and learning mission by overseeing classes in first-year composition, technical and business communication, learning support, and research writing for 5,500 students per year.
• Leading and advocating for the Marion L. Brittain Postdoctoral Fellowship, one of the country’s oldest, largest, and most innovative postdoctoral teaching fellowships in humanistic studies. Through the Brittain Fellowship, the Director guides the careers of 40 teacher-scholars, including their pedagogical development, professional development, scholarship, and employment goals inside and outside the academy.
• Identifying, promoting, and maintaining collaborations between the Writing and Communication Program, other units within LMC, and across campus (e.g. the Naugle CommLab, the College of Computing, the Scheller College of Business, the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, and the Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain).

Candidates must have earned a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Composition, or Technical Communication (or closely-related field) from an accredited university, and a background check must be completed prior to employment. . Candidates must possess an internationally recognized publication record appropriate for tenure at an R-1 institution and demonstrate a record of excellent teaching, administration, and mentoring. Ideal candidates will integrate traditional and innovative theory and practice in rhetoric, composition, and technical communication into a productive dialogue with other scholars in LMC—helping to articulate the School’s mission of providing “humanistic perspectives in a technological world.”
