Assistant/Associate Professor in Composition/Literacy Studies

The Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Syracuse University invites applications for an Assistant or Associate Professor in writing and rhetoric. Qualified candidates will possess a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, or related field. Potential areas of specialization include (but are not limited to): public writing, multilingual/translingual writing, transnational literacies, literacy and learning research, research in writing across the curriculum, writing program administration, writing in the disciplines, and professional and technical writing pedagogy.

The Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition is a freestanding academic unit at Syracuse, with a nationally recognized faculty and course offerings ranging from first-year writing to a Ph.D. in Composition and Cultural Rhetoric. Our department is also home to a growing major, a minor in Writing and Rhetoric, and a minor in Professional and Technical Writing. The successful candidate will share the College’s commitment to diversity, inclusion, and anti-racist pedagogy and be prepared to join an active research faculty who teach undergraduate and graduate courses and mentor doctoral students. They will demonstrate a promising research trajectory (established, in the case of advanced candidates) and evidence of teaching excellence.

Interested candidates must complete a brief online faculty application at https://www.sujobopps.com/postings/95724 and include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, diversity statement that details your incorporation of the principles of diversity in your teaching, research, and service, and the names/email addresses for three (3) professional references who will be sent a link to upload a confidential letter of recommendation. Three unique Interfolio email links to your recommender’s letters may be substituted for the recommender’s direct email addresses. Review of applications will begin on October 15 and continue until the position is filled. Syracuse University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity institution, and we welcome applications from diverse candidates. Women and members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply.
