Assistant Professor, English, African American Literature

The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for two tenure-track, assistant professor positions in African American literature and/or African Diasporic literatures, to begin Fall 2023. The teaching load for research faculty is 2-2, with balanced assignments in upper-division and graduate courses, as well as Auburn's core curriculum. While the Department welcomes all applications from within the fields, candidates whose research and teaching coincide with early African American literature, African American drama/Black performance studies, or Black diasporic literary studies are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will contribute to the growth of the Department’s African American literature offerings and will have opportunities to affiliate with interdisciplinary programs like Africana Studies or Women’s & Gender Studies.

Required Qualifications: PhD in English, African American Studies, or
related field by the August 16, 2023 appointment date, with a specialization in African American literature or African Diasporic literatures; a clear agenda for scholarly productivity; and a strong commitment to collegiality, with a willingness to take part in the life and work of a unified department of English Studies (which includes majors/concentrations in creative writing, literature, and writing studies). The candidates selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications: Record of publication in the field; successful
experience teaching African American/African Diasporic literature at the
college level; ability to generate new courses to expand the department’s
curricular offerings; demonstrable commitment to teaching, research, and
service.

https://www.auemployment.com/postings/32511. Submit the following
