Assistant Professor of English: Latina/o/x Literatures and Cultures

The Department of English at New Mexico State University seeks to hire an Assistant Professor of American Literature with specialization in Latina/o/x literatures and cultures, broadly conceived. We welcome expertise in any area of this specialization, including Chicana/o/x, Afro-Latinx, Caribbean, Latinx Indigeneity, and Borderlands or transnational studies. Additional expertise in Indigenous literatures and cultures of the Americas is especially welcomed. The successful applicant will have a PhD in hand (by August 2023) in English or a closely related field and will be ready to teach a broad range of courses, including surveys of post-Civil War American Literature and upper division/graduate seminars in areas of research specialization. Typical teaching load is 3/3 plus service on MA committees.

The Department of English offers a BA in English (with emphases in Creative Writing, Literature, and Rhetoric), an MA in English (with emphases in Literature, Rhetoric and Professional Communication, and English Studies for Teachers), an online MA in Technical and Professional Communication, and a PhD in Rhetoric and Professional Communication. We are home to the University-wide Writing Program as well as to NMSU’s Program in Gender and Sexuality Studies. We welcome candidates interested in building interdisciplinary links between programs within and beyond the English department.
