Asst Professor of Russian Cultural Studies

Contingent on the availability of funding, the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position beginning August 14, 2023. We are seeking a dynamic, creative, interdisciplinary, and productive scholar and teacher in the area of Russian language and Cultural Studies.

 

The successful candidate will work closely with the Russian program coordinator to help grow the Russian program and develop courses that will appeal to students from across disciplines. They will teach established courses at the undergraduate level; conduct research in their area of specialization; pursue collaborative research with faculty in other adjacent fields (e.g., Political Science, National Security Studies, Global Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies, Central and Eastern European Studies); and engage in unit, college, university, and national service.

 

A Ph.D. in Russian/Slavic, comparative literature, or a related language/literary studies field is required. The successful candidate must have native or near-native language skills in English and Russian; expertise in developing and teaching content courses in Russian Cultural Studies (in English and Russian), and at all levels of the Russian language; a demonstrated commitment to excellence in research as evidenced by dissertation research, publications, and/or externally funded research grants; and demonstrated teaching excellence as evidenced by teaching evaluations, peer observations of teaching, syllabi, and other evidence of curricular innovation.

 

Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching hybrid, blended, or online classes; the ability to teach courses in English that will appeal to students from other disciplines (i.e., English, Women’s and Gender Studies, National Security Studies, Political Science, History, Global Studies, Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, Medieval/Renaissance Studies); and an interest in developing courses that will intersect with other intellectual points of interest in the department (ex. literary translation, Central/Eastern European Studies).
