Assistant Professor in Hispanophone Studies

The Department of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California Davis invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Hispanophone Studies appointment effective 7/1/2023. Research should focus on Latin American, Iberian and/or Transnational Studies. We welcome, but do not require, interests in any of the following areas: colonialism, studies of empire, intersectionality, transnational networks, aesthetics/poetics, gender and sexuality studies, and/or critical race studies. The appointee must possess evidence of scholarly promise and successful teaching experience in both literature and cultural studies courses. We favor teaching and research interests that challenge established boundaries, periods, and regions within the Spanish-speaking world.

The successful candidate must be capable of mentoring undergraduate and graduate students who are working on qualifying exams, honors theses, and doctoral dissertations. Applicants will be able to contribute to the shared governance and intellectual life of the department and the larger UC Davis community. A PhD in Spanish and/or related field is required prior to the first day of classes on September 21, 2023. For full consideration, applications should be received by November 15, 2022.
