Assistant Professor of Caribbean Studies

The Department of Hispanic Languages and Literature at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in contemporary Latin American literature and cultures with a research focus on the Caribbean. Successful candidates must have a Ph.D. in Latin American literature (or closely related field) at the time of appointment, and evidence of foundational knowledge of literary-critical debates in Latin American studies. We encourage applications from candidates whose pedagogy and scholarship push the boundaries of the Latin Americanist canon in terms of critical approach, media form, or diverse political geographies and histories. We also welcome inventive blends of teaching and research with public humanities work and community engagement as well as candidates whose disposition to participate in the life of the department through service might strengthen the department’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service. Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English and the ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in curricular and experiential contexts are also required. We especially welcome applications from candidates of underrepresented groups, whose backgrounds, experience, and approaches contribute to our aims for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Pending budgetary approval, the position will begin in fall 2023.
