Assistant or Associate Professor in modern and/or contemporary Hispanic and Jewish Studies

The Department of Romance Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (http://romancestudies.unc.edu) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream position: tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with tenure in modern and/or contemporary Hispanic and Jewish Studies to begin July 1, 2023. We encourage applications from innovative scholars with interdisciplinary research interests who can contribute to dynamic undergraduate and graduate programs in Hispanic Studies as well as the growing undergraduate concentration and graduate certificate in Jewish Studies. The successful candidate will join a diverse community of scholars and students with opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and support through vibrant research centers such as the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies, the Center for European Studies, and the Institute for the Study of the Americas. The department particularly seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.

Required minimum qualifications are: Ph.D. in Spanish, Comparative Literature, Jewish Studies, or related field at time of employment and native or near-native proficiency in Spanish and English. The successful candidate will have a strong research portfolio that includes Hispanic Jewish literature, culture, film, or other media, and a record of teaching excellence, including a demonstrated or potential ability to teach students of diverse experiential and intellectual backgrounds. The successful candidate will maintain an active research program, perform service for the department and for other units in the university such as the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies, and teach a range of courses on Iberian or Latin American and Judeo-Hispanic culture, literature, film, and/or media. The position carries a 2-2 teaching load.
