Assistant Professor in Eighteenth-Century British Literature

The Department of English at Wake Forest University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Eighteenth-Century British poetry, drama, nonfictional prose and/or fiction. We are especially interested in applicants with demonstrated expertise in Black British Studies, race and racial formation in the eighteenth century.

The course load is 3-2-2-2. Teaching may include courses in British Literature before 1800 (a requirement in the English major), introductory literature courses for nonmajors, gateway major courses, courses in our MA program, first year seminars, and courses that fulfil the race and racial formation requirement in the English major. Candidates are expected to build on the Wake Forest English
Department’s tradition of pedagogical innovation, commitment to students, and outstanding academic achievement. A 1-semester paid research leave is guaranteed before application for tenure. The successful candidate is expected to have completed their PhD by July 2023. Salary is competitive.
