Assistant Professor in Asian American / Comparative Asian Literatures

The Department of English at Rutgers (New Brunswick) seeks a tenure-track assistant professor in Asian American / Comparative Asian Literatures. We are particularly interested in candidates with transnational, diasporic, or transpacific approaches. Successful candidates must have the Ph.D. in hand (in English or a related field) by Fall 2023 and be ready to take on duties including undergraduate and graduate teaching and research. Rutgers English is home to a top-tier graduate program and a large and dynamic undergraduate major; our faculty and student population reflects the rich diversity of New Jersey.

The assistant professor will be based in the English Department but will also benefit from our thriving Global Asias initiative (https://sites.rutgers.edu/global-asias/), a cross-disciplinary collaboration that focuses on trans-regional approaches to Asia and its diasporas, rather than single-region or national approaches. This initiative supports broad networks of teaching and research across New Brunswick and across the Rutgers campuses. It allows students and scholars to consider the impact of Asia and its diasporas historically, culturally, politically, and intellectually, and the changing meanings of the Asian geographical framework, bringing together students and scholars focusing on Asian-American Studies with those focused on South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, and other regions.

Submit application letter, dissertation abstract, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation (or a dossier), and a writing sample to the attention of Meredith McGill no later than November 1.
