The Department of English at the University of Miami seeks a colleague at the rank of assistant professor whose research and teaching focus on Race and Empire in Literature in English before 1900. We welcome candidates whose research and teaching would complement existing departmental strengths in early modern literary studies, Black studies, gender and sexuality studies, or Caribbean literary and cultural studies. The successful candidate may have the opportunity to contribute to interdepartmental graduate concentrations in Medieval and Early Modern Studies, Digital Humanities, and/or Caribbean Studies and to interdisciplinary units such as the Center for the Humanities, the Center for Global Black Studies, and/or the Native American and Global Indigenous Studies project.
The successful candidate will be an actively publishing scholar-teacher prepared to teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in one or more fields of their interest, and to serve as a reader or adviser for dissertations and on undergraduate or graduate program committees, as well as other departmental, college, or university committees. The teaching assignment is two courses per semester. Minimum requirements include an appropriate terminal degree (i.e., a PhD or the equivalent); conference presentations and journal or book publications; and relevant experience teaching literature. This appointment is expected to begin on August 15, 2023.
