The Department of Literature at Claremont McKenna College (CMC) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the assistant professor level in World/Postcolonial Literature with a particular emphasis on Anglophone literature. The position will begin on July 1, 2023. The successful candidate is expected to hold a Ph.D. by the time of the appointment.

The successful applicant will teach one section of our required first-year writing seminar and three other courses in literature. The teaching load is two courses per semester. The candidate must have demonstrated ability to maintain an active, high quality research program and the highest standards of excellence in teaching.

CMC will give priority to candidates who demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity in one or more of the following areas: curricular contributions, research, and/or teaching methods; the ability to work with diverse constituencies; a record of sustained interaction with students, colleagues, and/or community members representing a broad range of socioeconomic backgrounds, political opinions, genders, races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, religions, and divisions; the ability to bridge divides and/or work with others who are different from the candidate in key ways; experience in building opportunities for students, colleagues, and/or community members to learn from multi-cultural, multi-perspective settings; and a commitment to help the College become more diverse and inclusive.
