Assistant Professor in Spanish Linguistics

The Department of Modern Languages at Florida International University in Miami, Florida, invites applications for a Tenure Track, Assistant Professor in the Spanish Program. A Ph.D. in Spanish linguistics is required and must be in-hand by August 12, 2023. The candidate must have a strong record of research and scholarly publications in the area of Spanish linguistics; evidence of excellence in teaching; and a willingness to teach Spanish language classes at all levels. Near-native or native proficiency in Spanish and English is required. Demonstrated leadership skills is a plus.

We seek candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas and fields of research: Heritage language learning and acquisition, second language acquisition, Spanish sociolinguistics, raciolinguistics, and/or linguistic anthropology. The candidate must be able to work with, train and support future Spanish language teachers as part of our graduate program.

Additional pluses are having broad research interests as well as interest in innovative approaches (such as digital/public humanities) and community engagement with (Afro)Latinx, (Afro)Caribbean, and/or other cultures.

In September 2021, the Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) received full membership in the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). This prestigious organization includes the top 40 schools of international affairs in the world. The SIPA is among 25 in the US with this designation, 5th in the Southeastern United States, and the 1st and only in the State of Florida.
