Co-Director of Writing and Speaking Across the Curriculum, Campus Writing and Speaking Program; Advanced Associate or Full Professor, Department of English
Primary responsibilities: Work with Co-Director and Executive Director of the Campus Writing and Speaking Program to provide leadership and support to university faculty as they plan, implement, and assess enhanced oral and written communication activities across the
curriculum. Half-time teaching responsibilities in the Department of English (one course per semester).
Qualifications: Ph.D. in writing studies, composition and rhetoric, or related field, with specialization in one or more of the following areas: writing across the curriculum, writing assessment, writing centers and pedagogy, writing in the disciplines, comparative rhetoric; extensive research and teaching experience appropriate for an advanced associate or full professor in an English department; strong record of scholarly publication in one or more of the above areas; experience directing a cross-disciplinary writing program, preferably at a comparable research institution; experience consulting with, and leading workshops for, faculty and departments representing diverse disciplines; exemplary communication, leadership, and personal skills.
Teaching load: one course per semester.
Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The largest among 10 departments in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the English Department offers a range of undergraduate majors and concentrations, minors, three masters programs (MA, MFA, and MSTC), as well as one joint PhD in Communication, Rhetoric, and Digital Media (CRDM). We also offer many courses of interest to the University community as a whole, and we work with other departments and programs, such as Foreign Languages and Literatures, Women’s Studies, Communication, and Education, to furnish multidisciplinary opportunities for NC State students. The English department consists of a large, diverse faculty, staff, and student body that prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers.
The Campus Writing and Speaking Program was established in 1997 to provide leadership for NC State as it implemented its General Education Requirements, which state that “each curriculum is designed so that upper-level courses and other programmatic experiences help
students write and speak competently in the disciplines.” Our program was the first in the nation at our class of institution to integrate writing and speaking across the curriculum using the departmentally-focused model (now sometimes referred to as the "WEC" or Writing-Enriched Curriculum). Through a variety of consultations, workshops, and activities, we aresustaining this goal.
The Campus Writing and Speaking Program is housed in the Office for Faculty Excellence within the Office of the Provost. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is the Chief Academic Officer for North Carolina State University, which is by some measures the largest of the 16
Universities in the UNC System. This office is responsible for the academic programs, policies, and budget affecting over 34,000 students in 10 colleges.
