We also offer many courses of interest to the University community as a whole, and we work with other departments and programs, such as Foreign Languages and Literatures, Women’s Studies, Communication, and Education, to furnish  multidisciplinary opportunities for NC State students. The English department consists of a large, diverse faculty, staff, and student body that prepares graduates for a wide variety of careers.

The Campus Writing and Speaking Program was established in 1997 to provide leadership for NC State as it implemented its General Education Requirements, which state that “each curriculum is designed so that upper-level courses and other programmatic experiences help
students write and speak competently in the disciplines.” Our program was the first in the nation at our class of institution to integrate writing and speaking across the curriculum using the departmentally-focused model (now sometimes referred to as the "WEC" or Writing-Enriched Curriculum). Through a variety of consultations, workshops, and activities, we aresustaining this goal.

The Campus Writing and Speaking Program is housed in the Office for Faculty Excellence within the Office of the Provost. The Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost is the Chief Academic Officer for North Carolina State University, which is by some measures the largest of the 16
Universities in the UNC System. This office is responsible for the academic programs, policies, and budget affecting over 34,000 students in 10 colleges.

NC State is a research-extensive, land-grant institution, with U.S. and international students and faculty. The university’s research park, Centennial Campus, hosts more than 75 companies and
organizations engaged in university research partnerships and where 170+ start-ups have launched. Located in North Carolina’s capital city, NC State anchors one corner of the Research Triangle Park, which houses more than 300 global companies or agencies dedicated to research
and development. NC State’s location provides a plethora of opportunities for research collaboration, student internships, and jobs for graduates.
