Assistant Professor of French and Intercultural Communications

The School of Humanities at Purchase College, SUNY, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in French and Intercultural Communication to begin September 1, 2023. The ideal candidate will have a background in French linguistics and communication, with an emphasis in the areas of language pedagogy, pragmatics, and sociolinguistics and an interest in global perspectives on intercultural communication. Ability to teach an additional language or digital humanities is a plus.  The candidate will be expected to contribute to the French language program in the Language and Culture department by teaching French language courses (particularly at the advanced level) and developing curriculum in French and applied linguistics. The candidate will also contribute to the Communications department, teaching, developing curriculum, and advising students.

Teaching responsibilities include 6 courses per academic year, one of which will be fulfilled by sponsoring undergraduate Senior Projects or their equivalent. The Senior Project is a college-wide requirement and a distinctive feature of the Purchase experience. Scholarship and service to the college community are also required and considered in tenure review.
