Assistant Professor and Director of US Latinx Minor Program

The Department of English Studies at Western Carolina University is seeking a candidate for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position (PhD in hand by start date) to direct the US Latinx Studies Minor program and to teach primarily Latin American and Caribbean literature courses. The literature courses will be developed by the candidate and will range from general Liberal Studies to focused MA courses. Anticipated begin work date is August 2023.

Applicants must have demonstrable expertise in the area of US Latinx Studies and proficiency in English and Spanish. Approved as a stand-alone minor in fall 2020, WCU’s interdisciplinary US Latinx Studies Program not only provides WCU’s student body with a meaningful curriculum focused on diversity and inclusion across different academic disciplines, but also highlights the collaborative, inclusive ethos of the WCU faculty and staff who have supported the program from its inception. The Latinx program now provides high quality academic and co-curricular programming for the campus, including interdisciplinary internships, and the region. It has had a positive and direct impact on the institution’s ability to recruit and retain a burgeoning Latinx student population.

Applicants must apply online at jobs.wcu.edu. Please include a cover letter, a 300-word statement delineating programmatic vision for Latinx Studies in western North Carolina, a current CV, unofficial transcripts, and the names and a listing of at least three professional references with complete contact information.
