Non-Tenure Track Assistant Professor of English (Generalist)

Position: The Department of English and Linguistics in the School of Arts & Letters at Truman State University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of English, generalist position.  This is a nine-month, full-time appointment that will begin in August 2023.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Teach a wide range of courses for BA English, MA English, and MAE English Education students: subject matter may include film, popular literary genres/forms, and/or digital humanities in addition to core offerings in literature, academic writing, and public writing
  • 4-4 teaching load (or equivalent)

 

Required Qualifications:

  • PhD or EdD in English or related field (completed by August 2023)
  • At least 18 credit hours in graduate-level literature coursework
  • Evidence of teaching effectiveness or potential for teaching effectiveness
  • Evidence of relevant scholarly achievements and potential for future scholarly success
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to the public liberal arts mission of Truman State University

 

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated expertise or interest in one or more of the following areas of high demand and desirable areas of program growth:

  • folklore studies
  • Shakespeare
  • diverse/minority literature
  • theory/pedagogy of online instruction
  • digital humanities

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and education.  The benefits package includes life, health and disability insurance, retirement contributions, and reimbursed assistance for moving expenses.  The awarding of tenure and promotion is based on success in the University’s teacher-scholar model.

Our Programs:  Truman State University offers a BA and MA in English and an MAE in Secondary English Education. The Community: Located in northeast Missouri, Kirksville is a cultural and economic hub in the region.
