Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Multiethnic and Latinx Literature

The English Department at SUNY New Paltz invites applications for a tenure-track position with a specialization in Multiethnic Literature and teaching expertise in Latinx Literature. Candidates will be expected to develop and teach courses in Multiethnic and Latinx Literature, which might include Latino/a, diasporic, borderland, and/or immigrant narratives and intersectionalities. The appointment will be at the level of assistant professor with an anticipated start date of August 2023.

SUNY New Paltz is a competitive regional comprehensive university with a diverse student body, with students coming primarily from New York City, Long Island, and upstate New York. Currently 26% of our majors identify as Asian-Pacific, Black, Latinx, or multi-racial.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including general education and introductory literature and writing courses as well as advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of specialization. The candidate hired for this position will also hold affiliate status in the Latin American, Caribbean and Latinx Studies Program at SUNY New Paltz and will teach at least one course per year in that program. The standard teaching load for this position is 18 credits per year. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarly research leading to publication, effective teaching and mentoring, and service within the college and disciplinary community. Qualifications: 

Applicants must have a PhD in English or related field or supply solid indication of imminent completion. Preference will be given to candidates who can provide strong evidence of active research and publication and who can demonstrate a record of, or potential for, excellent teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
