Clinical Assistant Professor, Writing Program

The Writing Program at NYU Shanghai invites applications for multiple full-time Clinical Assistant Professor positions to teach writing to academically outstanding students from around the world. These multi-disciplinary writing courses are integrated into the writing and cultural foundations elements of the core curriculum.

The Writing Program is currently in a “building phase;” therefore, we are hiring multiple positions. We are particularly interested in applicants with backgrounds in writing across the curriculum (WAC), scientific and technical writing, or writing in the social sciences. The Writing Program also offers courses in writing studies, journalism, and creative writing. We encourage applicants with backgrounds in these areas to also apply.  Finally, we seek applicants with  strong backgrounds in and commitments to multilingual pedagogies.

This is a Full-Time Continuing Contract (FTCC) Faculty position.  Candidates must have completed a terminal degree by the time of appointment in August 2023.  Typical appointments are on 3-to-5-year terms.  While we seek applications from candidates with an active research profile, successful candidates will be hired and evaluated on the basis of teaching and service.

Clinical Assistant Professors in the Writing Program teach six sections (or their equivalent) of introductory or intermediate writing courses (3 sections/semester). Opportunities exist for promotion to Clinical Associate Professor and Clinical Professor, which include reduced course loads and longer contracts.  Courses are capped at 16 but generally enroll 12 students per section. You may read more about the Writing Curriculum on our website.

Writing faculty attend pre-semester faculty meetings, participate in regular faculty development workshops throughout the academic year, participate in institutional service, and may continue ongoing research and practice in their academic or creative fields. The university offers a strong and competitive benefits package that reflects the international nature of the institution, including discretionary funds for professional development.
