Full Time Lecturer & Language Coordinator for Spanish

The Department of Romance Studies at Tufts University invites applications for a Spanish Language Coordinator/Full-time Lecturer position to begin September 1, 2023.

Responsibilities include teaching two Spanish language courses annually (one course per semester), coordinating two levels of elementary Spanish, overseeing the entire Spanish language curriculum, supervising and evaluating Spanish lecturers, hiring, training and supervising Teaching Assistants, coordinating and administering placement exams, evaluating students level ad-hoc, advising students, collaborating with other university offices, and promoting the program by organizing co-curricular and outreach events.

Requirements and skills

  • Masters’ degree required in Spanish language pedagogy, second language acquisition, linguistics, or a related field. PhD preferred.
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Multi-tasking, detailed oriented, organizational skills
  • Team-management, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience in designing and teaching college-level Spanish language courses in the U.S.
  • Command of instructional technology applied to language learning.
  • Evidence of creative pedagogical practice reflecting knowledge of current methodologies.
  • Evidence of a commitment to designing curricula that address issues of equity and justice with a focus on marginalized communities.
  • Understanding of current Peninsular and Latin-American cultural issues.
