Position Summary:

The Department of English is seeking to hire a full-time (12 month), tenured faculty position in Rhetoric and Composition at the level of Associate Professor. The position includes a 1/1 teaching assignment with classes ranging from first-year composition to upper-level undergraduate and graduate courses in the field. In addition to teaching and research in the field of Rhetoric/Composition/Writing Studies in the Department of English (which is 50% of appointment), this faculty member will direct the University Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program, the writing center, and the multilingual student support program (each with supporting Assistant Directors) and report directly to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies (which is 50% of appointment). The successful applicant for this position will exhibit strong organizational, collaborative, and administrative skills to coordinate with all assistant directors; develop and build new initiatives; provide assessment data for each program and lead annual WAC assessment; collaborate with colleagues across the university for campus-wide writing initiatives; and perform other related duties as assigned. Preliminary interviews will be conducted by Zoom. The successful candidate will ideally begin July 1, 2023.

 Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to the Chair of English and the Dean of Undergraduate Studies
  • Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities as described.
  • Responsible for academic advising and related activities.
  • May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Composition with additional areas of specialization. Experience in the following areas is strongly preferred: writing program administration and/or Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) and/or writing center studies. Additional desirable areas of expertise include multilingual teaching and linguistics, digital writing and rhetoric, multimodal writing. Candidate must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor. Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong peer-reviewed, scholarly publication record in area of specialization; evidence of effective undergraduate and graduate teaching in area(s) of specialization; knowledge and experience in developing and evaluating undergraduate and graduate courses; commitment to excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and university/community service; excellent oral and written communication skills; digital information technology skills. The successful candidate will have the ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all backgrounds. The successful candidate will foster and create educational opportunities where all student populations thrive.
