The English Department seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English specializing in Creative Writing with a focus on Fiction to fill a position beginning Fall 2023. Teaching experience in other forms of writing or literature is also highly desirable. The successful candidate will help shape our new and growing writing concentration within the English major and will teach lower-division writing and/or literature courses focused on issues of ethics/justice. Opportunities exist to contribute to and/or direct our reading series, assist with the student-run literary journal The Clocktower Review, and/or pursue community-engaged teaching and creative work, depending on interests and expertise. Teaching load for research-active faculty is 3-3. Candidates should have completed all requirements for an MFA or PhD in English (or a closely related field) by September 2023, and evidence of creative publication is expected.

To ensure consideration, applicants should submit a cover letter, c.v., graduate transcripts (unofficial transcripts acceptable at initial stage), and a 1-2 page teaching philosophy that explicitly addresses diversity in teaching, mentoring, research, and/or service through this link https://jobs.silkroad.com/Xavier/apply/jobs/2802 by November 18. Three letters of recommendation should be sent by recommenders to the address Creativewritingprof@xavier.edu by November 18. Only complete dossiers submitted and received by the deadline will be considered. Initial interviews of selected candidates will be conducted via video conference in December or January, and finalists will be invited to campus for interviews thereafter.
