Assistant Professor - Japanese (Tenure Track)

The Department of Foreign Languages & Literatures at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Japanese language at the rank of Assistant Professor.  Desired qualifications: Experience and/or interest in developing the undergraduate curriculum of the Japanese program. Minimum qualifications: PhD in Japanese linguistics, applied linguistics, or literature preferred, but PhD in Japanese Studies or East Asian Studies considered.  PhD in hand by the time of appointment.  Native or near-native fluency expected.  Responsibilities include teaching, conducting research, and service.  UAB is a vibrant research-intensive institution.  A strong and sustained scholarly record is expected by tenure decision.  Send cover letter (describing teaching and scholarship), CV, transcripts, and three professional letters of reference to the Chair of the Search Committee at http://uab.peopleadmin.com/postings/5559.
