Assistant Professor, 20th and 21st Century Postcolonial Literature in English

The English Department in the College of Arts and Sciences at Fairfield University invites applicants for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professorship in 20 and 21st Century Postcolonial Literature in English beginning in September 2023. We welcome candidates with secondary interests in African, Caribbean, South Asian, or Asian literature in English; transnational approaches to Black culture in the Americas; African Diaspora literature and film; Asian Diaspora literature and film; anti/post/decolonialism; and critical theory. There will be opportunities to collaborate with our interdisciplinary programs in Black Studies, Islamic Studies, Latin American & Caribbean Studies, American Studies, Asian Studies, Peace and Justice Studies, Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and International Studies. We also welcome applicants whose scholarship extends beyond the Anglophone to include African or Asian languages. Applicants must have a strong commitment to pedagogical innovation and demonstrated excellence in using technology in the classroom.  The potential for developing an active research program in the candidate’s area of specialization is also required. 

Requirements:

The position requires teaching three literature courses at the undergraduate level each semester, distributed between Core/introductory courses and upper division courses for majors and minors, with an opportunity for a one-semester, pre-tenure research leave, as well as a sabbatical following every 12 semesters of teaching. The successful candidate will have completed the Ph.D. by the position start date, and will have demonstrated excellence in teaching.
