Assistant Professor of English and Writing

Assistant Professor of English and Writing

The Department of English and Writing within the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa seeks a writer and teacher of creative nonfiction. The position is tenure-track, at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in August2023.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area.  UT reflects this vibrancy; with 24 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 260 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and more than 100 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News & World Report.

We particularly seek candidates whose writing and experience represent historically underrepresented communities in literature and the academy. A terminal degree in creative writing and substantial publications are required.

The Department of English and Writing is committed to serving both our majors and the university’s Spartan Studies general education curriculum. Tenure-track faculty in the department teach a 3/3 load, divided equally between courses in the faculty member’s area of expertise and Academic Writing classes. Successful candidates will therefore demonstrate a dedication to and experience teaching both creative nonfiction and composition. Our recently redesigned and expanded creative writing curriculum offers opportunities for the new hire to design and teach courses in their areas of specialization.

Apply online at www.ut.edu/jobs and include a cover letter, CV, a writing sample of no more than twenty-five pages, and contact information for three references. Letters of recommendation may be requested at a later time. Review of applications will begin November 4.
