Tenure Track Assistant Professor of French

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham Department of World Languages and Literatures invites applications for a full-time, 9-month appointment, tenure-track early career or advanced Assistant Professor position in French (specialization open with a genuine demonstrated research interest in Proust Studies). We are seeking candidates with a strong background in French language pedagogy and a commitment to pursue a high-quality scholarly activity in their field of specialty. The successful candidate will be instrumental in helping the French major concentration grow and thrive. The position requires (1) teaching undergraduate French language courses at all levels including a variety of upper-level courses, as well as introductory culture courses and advanced seminars in English as part of the Major in World Languages; and teaching graduate-level courses as part of the Master of Arts in Education in French (School of Education); (2) conducting and publishing research commensurate with a research-intensive university; and (3) engaging in departmental, college and university service. Candidates who incorporate technology and innovative and interdisciplinary approaches to teaching the French language and francophone cultures will be strongly considered. There is the opportunity to lead summer study abroad programs.

The successful candidate must have native or near-native fluency in French and English and must have a PhD in hand by the time of appointment (August 15, 2023), although ABDs may be considered at the time of offer.
