Lecturer and Online ENG-W131 Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for one full-time, twelve-month, non-tenure track Lecturer position to serve as the Department’s Coordinator for online writing-based courses and teach undergraduate writing courses. This position carries year-round administrative responsibilities and a teaching load of four courses per year. This is a promotion track position, renewed each year during the six-year probationary period with possibility for retention and advancement to Senior Lecturer after year six. 

As the Department’s Online Coordinator, this position works in concert with the Director of Composition and Director of Undergraduate Teaching in the English Department to provide oversight, direction, and management of the Online component of the First-Year and Intensive Writing programs. This role is equal parts curriculum building and instructor training and support, with core responsibilities including but not limited to: updating existing content and modules, (re)designing learning activities, evaluating and implementing new learning technologies, creating training materials, providing training and support for graduate students teaching online courses, assessing the online program (success, impact, development, etc.), and collaborating with IU’s division of eLearning Delivery Services. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in English, Composition Studies, Rhetoric, Literature or related field required, with graduate coursework in teaching writing and at least five years of experience teaching writing courses in a university setting. Preference will be given to those with a demonstrated commitment to online instructional design. Additionally, successful candidates will also demonstrate experience with one or more of the following: writing program administration, development of online curriculum, instructor training / professional development leadership, and documented evidence of successful teaching in the undergraduate classroom.
