We seek a candidate who has a strong background in Latin American culture, experience in experiential and service learning, and a commitment to community engagement. The successful candidate will bring diverse perspectives to shape the future of Stetson’s World Languages and Cultures Department. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute innovative coursework and (inter)disciplinary scholarship while expanding the teaching of Spanish and Latinx Studies at the university.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and be willing to teach Hispanic Studies courses in language, literature, and culture at all levels. The applicant will have expertise in Latinx Studies and a demonstrated interest in service learning and community engagement. Applicants specializing in either Afro-Hispanic Studies or Afro-Caribbean Studies are strongly preferred; additional expertise in Gender Studies is desirable. The successful candidate will have an active, demonstrated research agenda and show the promise of a productive scholar. We are especially interested in and strongly encourage applications from candidates who have experience working with students from linguistically, culturally, racially, and socially diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for students from underrepresented groups.
The teaching load is three undergraduate courses per semester. Qualified candidates are expected to teach Spanish language and Latin American culture from the introductory to advanced levels, and create a First-Year seminar relevant to Latinx student population. Additional teaching-related responsibilities include co-curricular activities of the World Languages and Cultures Department (http://www.stetson.edu/artsci/languages/ ), as well as contributions to the College’s General Education mission. As teacher-scholars, candidates will be expected to be excellent teachers and maintain an active research agenda.
