German Instructor and Language Coordinator

Job Description:

The Department of German and Russian Studies at Binghamton University invites applications for a German language coordinator at the rank of tenure-track instructor beginning in fall, 2023. We seek a colleague whose scholarship in Applied Linguistics and/or language pedagogy will allow us to expand the impact of our successful language program and to explore new ways to embed the study of languages in transdisciplinary approaches to teaching and curricular development. The proposed hire will both coordinate the German Language Program and expand its impact through innovative teaching. Our ideal candidate will have the demonstrated potential to lead and expand our German language program, while also engaging with the field of German as a Second Language. 

The appointee will assume a variety of responsibilities related to the core language program in a department with active faculty engagement at all levels of undergraduate instruction. Duties will include teaching and coordinating language courses, offering supervision and mentorship to language instructors, teaching seminars in language pedagogy, and working with colleagues on curriculum development and strategic planning.

We seek applicants with proven records of excellence in undergraduate teaching as well as evidence of ongoing engagement in the field through one or more of the following: conference presentations, publications, organization of workshops and/or outreach activities, contributions to textbooks, and demonstrated innovation in teaching materials and practices. Teaching load is 3/3, with typically two preparations per semester; Ph.D. required by the start of appointment; native or near-native proficiency in German and English required.
