Advanced Assistant / Associate Professor in English, Director of First-Year Composition

Clemson University’s English Department seeks an outstanding scholar and teacher for a tenure-track/tenured position at either the advanced assistant or associate professor rank to direct the first-year composition program. The position start date is August 15, 2023.

The successful candidate must hold a PhD in English, rhetoric, composition, or a related field, have an active research agenda (we are open to various specializations), and be committed to diversity and inclusion in their teaching and service work. The candidate should also have administrative experience in a writing program or writing center. In addition, the candidate should be open to different models of teaching first-year composition that allow faculty to use different texts, including literary texts, to achieve the learning objectives of the English department’s first-year composition course. The typical teaching load for research-productive tenured and tenure-track faculty is two courses per semester; however, the Director of First-Year Composition typically receives one course release per academic year while serving in the director role.

The new Director will also collaborate with current faculty to enhance well-established curricular and institutional programs. The English department has a robust undergraduate major, a significant role in Clemson University’s core curriculum, and involvement in multiple graduate programs.
