The Louisiana Scholars' College, the state's selective-admission honors college of the liberal arts and sciences, located at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, seeks applications from broadly trained individuals to fill a tenure-track position as an Assistant/ Associate Professor of Romance Languages with an anticipated start date of August 7, 2023.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in hand in Romance Languages, French, Spanish, or a related field. Candidates with PhDs in French or Spanish will have significant graduate work in the other language. Fluency in a third non -English language is desirable but not required. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate honors French and Spanish courses, and will be eager to contribute to a team-taught Great Texts curriculum. Preference will be given to applicants with prior college-level teaching experience, experience directing student research, and experience in honors education. The successful candidate will have demonstrated evidence of scholarly achievement. Applicants should be committed to liberal arts education and willing to interact with colleagues and students from other fields in the arts and sciences to maintain and improve an integrated, multidisciplinary honors curriculum.

JOB CONCEPTS:

Duties include teaching 12-15 contact hours per semester; holding 10 office hours per week; advising students as assigned; directing undergraduate theses as needed; maintaining a research agenda; developing curricula; and working on committees as assigned.

Established by the Louisiana Board of Regents for Higher Education in 1987, the Louisiana Scholars' College serves as the state's selective-admission honors college of the liberal arts and sciences. Its mission is to provide highly motivated students with a rigorous, customized honors education firmly grounded in the liberal arts and sciences.

The college has 12 full-time faculty in the liberal arts and sciences and an enrollment around 100 students. Students may pursue a traditional major or an interdisciplinary concentration in Classical Studies; Fine and Performing Arts; Foreign Languages; Humanities and Social Thought; Philosophy, Politics, and Economics; or Scientific Inquiry.

The Scholars' College offers small classes, a close-knit community, and supportive faculty who are committed to student success. Most of our classes are seminars in which ideas are exchanged in an open and supportive environment. All students complete a senior thesis; many also pursue opportunities for internships or study away.
