The Opportunity:

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications for an exceptional academic leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Humanities and Communication, beginning fall, 2023. The Chair will provide strategic leadership to a multidisciplinary department and will work with faculty, administration, and students to build upon the department's strengths in teaching, research, and service. 

 

Applicants with the academic credentials equivalent to the rank of associate will be considered, but full professor with tenure is preferred. Applicants also should have a proven record of administrative experience that prepares them to perform the management of budgets, promote the professional development of faculty and advance the department's contributions that support the university's strategic goals.
 

The department seeks an accomplished, creative leader and a highly effective communicator. The candidate should have an active research agenda, a record of teaching effectiveness, and an ability to advocate for the role of general education at a STEM-oriented university.

 

In addition to offering general education courses in writing, humanities and communication, the department encompasses academic programs in Communication and Interdisciplinary Studies, with minors in Humanities, Communication, Latin American Studies, Arabic Studies and Russian Studies.  The department has 33 full-time faculty members. The Chair reports directly to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences, teaches one class a semester, and serves on a 12-month appointment.
