Assistant Professor of English or Spanish with a focus on Latino/a/x Literature and Culture

The Departments of English and of Spanish and Portuguese at the University of California Irvine invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Latino/a/x literature, open period, with preference for scholars working on migrant and immigrant issues, trans-American and Latin American literary movements and publishing networks, feminist movements, gender and sexuality, Afrolatinidades and/or LatinX indigeneities. Scholars who work across the fields of US literature, Latin American literature and Latino/a/x studies are encouraged to apply. This is a collaborative search by the Departments of English and of Spanish and Portuguese for potential appointment in one or both departments.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in English, Spanish, Comparative Literature, or another relevant field. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. Ph.D. must be completed by the date of appointment (7/1/2023).
Candidates should submit a letter of application describing their research; a statement of teaching experience and interests; a statement addressing past and potential contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion; an article-length writing sample not to exceed 30 pages; a current CV; three letters of reference; and Authorization to Release Information Form.
