Open Rank Professor, Dual Enrollment Coordinator, English Composition

Job Overview

The English Department within the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for an Advanced Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position (rank and title commensurate with credentials) to serve as Coordinator of the English Composition Dual Enrollment program beginning January 1, 2023.  This faculty position will combine administrative work and a teaching load of 2 courses a year. Candidates should expect the work of this position to be spread across the academic year, including summer.

Essential Functions

UC seeks to create multiple educational pathways by which students can earn UC credit while attending their local high schools. First-year composition is considered an essential course for many of these pathways. To that end, the coordinator will:

  • Develop a certification process and set of graduate courses that will prepare secondary teachers interested in teaching college-level writing courses.
  • Collaborate with the wider Launch UC and College Credit Plus teams, while working closely with our cross-college composition committee to ensure that local dual enrollment programs are aligned with UC Composition’s pedagogical goals and values.
  • Develop curricula and best practices for dual credit courses that meet existing course outcomes and maintain the integrity of the college writing course experience.
  • Attract, train, and assess high school teachers in the dual credit program.
  • In addition to administrative duties, the coordinator will teach two courses per year, including undergraduate composition and graduate courses in Rhetoric and Composition.  Graduate courses will most likely be offered in online or hybrid formats to accommodate the limited schedules of working high school teachers.

Minimum Requirements

Prior to effective date of appointment, candidates must:

  • Have a doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition or related field.
  • Publication record in or related to writing program administration, dual-credit courses/programs, high school to college transitions, writing pedagogy at secondary and post-secondary levels, or related.
  • At least 5 academic years of college composition teaching, with one year of those teaching in online or hybrid learning environments.
  • Candidates must have some experience in an administrative and/or supervisory role and knowledge of dual credit pedagogy and theory.

Application Process

For full consideration, applicants must complete our online application. In addition to the application, we require the following:

  • Cover letter describing interest and qualifications for the position.
  • Current CV.
  • A one (1) to two (2) page administrative statement that addresses issues particular to dual credit programming.
  • After initial candidate review, three letters of reference and evidence of teaching success may be requested.

Review of applications will begin on October 15th and continue until the position is filled. Start date is January 1, 2023.
