Assistant Professor (TT) or Lecturer of Spanish (1 position)

The Department of Foreign Languages at Tennessee Technological University invites applications for either an Assistant Professor of Spanish position (full-time, tenure track) or a Lecturer of Spanish position (full-time, non-tenure track, renewable). https://jobs.tntech.edu/postings/14702 

Responsibilities for the Assistant Professor of Spanish position (full-time, tenure track) include teaching an equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester, which traditionally includes 3 courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, along with scholarly activity and service to the department, university, and profession. Other duties will include participating in the Spanish Club, advising majors, and directing senior capstones. 

Responsibilities for the Lecturer of Spanish position (full-time, non-tenure track, renewable) include teaching an equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester, which traditionally includes 4 courses at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum, along with service to the department.

The appointment will begin August 1, 2023. The Lecturer position, which will begin August 2023 and end May 2026, is renewable based on satisfactory annual reviews, the needs of the department, and future funding.

Minimum qualifications include: 1) a Ph.D. in Spanish, or a related field, with a primary specialization in Latin American studies (Ph.D. must be completed by July 1, 2023);

2) two years' experience teaching Spanish at the university level in both face-to-face and online modalities; 3) advanced proficiency in pedagogical applications of technology in foreign-language instruction; 4) demonstrated commitment to current ACTFL guidelines;

5) native or near-native command of Spanish and a professional level of English; 6) excellent communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications include: 1) experience developing Spanish for the Professions courses (e.g., Criminal Justice, Health Services, etc.); 2) evidence of excellence in undergraduate instruction, active involvement in student-oriented activities, experience with advising or mentorship, and a well-defined research agenda; 3) experience with program building.
