Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Rhetoric and/or Writing Studies

Penn State Abington College is hiring a Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor in Rhetoric and/or Writing Studies to start January 2023. This is a one-year, full-time (36-week), non-tenure track appointment with the possibility for renewal.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a MA in Rhetoric, Writing Studies, or a related field, by the time of appointment, with a PhD preferred. ABD candidates will be appointed to the rank of Lecturer until the PhD is in hand. Prior college-level teaching experience required.

Responsibilities: The candidate will teach first-year writing courses, with additional opportunities to teach discipline-oriented courses such as Technical Writing, Writing for Social Sciences, and/or Business Writing. The teaching load is 4-4. Expertise in professional and/or digital publication, multimodal rhetorics, and/or teaching multilingual writers is strongly desired.

A commitment to student-centered, innovative, and engaging pedagogy is expected; an interdisciplinary approach to teaching is encouraged. The individual must be able to work effectively with diverse populations and audiences. In addition, the candidate will participate in campus, university, and community service activities.
