Assistant Professor - African American Literature

Job Description:

The Department of English at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of African American Literature beginning in August of 2023. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work situates African American Literature within a global context, engaging the large body of African, Caribbean, and Black Diasporic literatures.  We also seek candidates who are able to foster an inclusive environment inside and outside the classroom.

Located in Baton Rouge, LSU is the flagship land-grant institution in Louisiana and a Research 1 University. We support research and teaching in a broad range of fields and many interdisciplinary programs.

Requirements: Ph.D., with expertise in African American Literature, by the time the position begins (August 2023).

Teaching and Mentorship Expectations: The teaching load is 2/2 and consists of graduate and undergraduate courses. Service on graduate dissertation committees is expected as well.  

Research Expectations: Competitive candidates should maintain an active scholarly profile. The College provides strong support for research and faculty development.
