The Department of English at the University of Central Missouri invites applications for a tenure-track position in African American literature and Africana Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning on August 8, 2023. Successful candidates will be qualified to teach general education literature surveys, first-year writing, and advanced courses in African American literature, as well as courses appropriate to their joint appointment in the Africana Studies program; ability to teach classes in Women and Gender Studies is a plus. Teaching load is 4/3, which includes a course release related to service in Africana Studies.

A PhD in African American Studies or English with emphasis on African American literature at the time of appointment is preferred; candidates who are ABD may be considered, with the expectation that they would complete all requirements for the PhD within one year of being hired. Candidates must have completed significant coursework in the field and have experience teaching African American literature.
